It's the time of year when the NZ olive oil harvest is finished, the oil pressed and racked. So what happens next? The NZ Olive Oil awards! It's a bit like the Oscars for olive oils certified under the Olives New Zealand banner. The results will be out on Saturday, hence why we will be closed.
This year we have entered several single variety extra virgin olive oils into the awards, along with several flavoured olive oils.
We are all excited to know how we have done, but just like any result for any endeavour, the butterflies are starting with the anticipation.
It is Helen and my first year in the olive oil business, and with a grove that has won many awards in previous years (including a gold medal at the World Olive Oil Competition last year) our sense of anticipation is slowly building.
